March 2017 Survey available (see below).
We purchased Ops in August 2016 from owners who had clearly looked after her well and taken advantage of her considerable cruising capabilities. The English owners had been cruising the French canal system and we purchased Ops and returned from St Valerie Sur Somme, along the Channel to Plymouth. Due to family circumstances, last year we only managed a number of short cruises from our mooring in Plymouth between Salcombe and Fowey. This year we have crossed the Channel 4 times and run up and down the Devon & Cornwall coasts from Salcombe to Helford. Her sailing performance outstripped my expectations and the engine never missed a beat.
Ops was re-engined in 2008 with a new Beta 38 and gearbox that have subsequently seen just over 1000 hours and continue to run very sweetly. A new suite of Kemp Dacron Sails and SS standing rigging were installed in 2014 and are all in excellent condition. We had the engine thoroughly overhauled immediately after purchase in 2016.
In 2016 the topsides and superstructure including all the decks, the coach roof and wheelhouse were professionally resprayed. A stainless steel boarding ladder and bathing platform were also installed with attachments to stow the inflatable dinghy when in a marina.
In 2017 all seacocks were replaced. A new drive shaft, cutlass bearing, electric bilge pump and stern tube were installed. A new wheelhouse control panel was installed in addition to engine temperature and holding tank gauges.
Ops will come ashore in October to Blagdon’s Yard, Plymouth, and prior to that can viewed on her Tamar River mooring.

*Possibility of low cost, swinging, Tamar mooring
Ops is currently on an excellent swinging mooring adjacent to Mount Edgcumbe Country Park. This gives access to Plymoth Sound and beyond to the cruising grounds of Devon and Cornwall (including Newton Ferrers, Salcombe, Fowey & Falmouth) and beyond to the Channel Islands and France. The annual charge from the council is currently £261 plus £110 to the riverman for the mooring inspection and certificate. While this is not automatically transferable, it is possible to request a transfer if the owner owner wishes to continue with mooring and not join a lengthy waiting list. I access the mooring from the award winning Mayflower Marina and also pay around £750 per year to keep the Dory there – it takes just a few minutes from the pontoon berth to the mooring. If a new owner wishes to continue with this arrangement, the Mayflower is the best marina we have stayed in across the entire south of England and the fee gives unlimted and secure free car parking, high quality showers, a chandlery, brilliant restaurant (Jolly Jacks) and all the usual services and facilities. The marina allows us to come alongside in Ops and fill up with water without charge. As mentioned further down, the Dory is also for sale. Should the purchaser wish to continue on the mooring and include the Dory, I will wave the mooring gear (new in 2017) charge of approx. £1000.
